I’m reading Dr. Faustus of Thomas Mann. It is very interesting to read a book written by a writer that knew his music and lived at a time when Classical Music was a vibrant part of the cultural scene. It brings back memories of my mentor, Mario Feninger, a great pianist whose fame never rose to the level of his performances. And it reminds me of the need that our current culture has to rise above the mundane and try to reach heights that can border on the divine.
